Indian Students Increases by 50% In Overseas Education

The number of Indian students pursuing education abroad has seen a rise of 52.2 % over the past five years, increasing from 5,86,337 in 2019 to 8,92,989 in 2023. However, the UK, USA, and Canada lead in the number of enrollments of Indian students.

Of the 8,92,989 Indian students abroad, the United States leads the largest portion, with 2,34,473 students enrolled in its universities and colleges. Following closely is Canada, with around 2,33,532 students, while the United Kingdom ranks third, accommodating around 1,36,921 Indian students. Moreover, Canada experienced a remarkable growth of 76% increase in Indian student enrollments, expanding from 1,32,620 in 2019 to 2,33,532 in 2023. This rise occurred even though the ongoing tensions between India and Canada.

Furthermore, the United States has seen a 91% increase in the enrollments of Indian students numbers climbing from 1,22,535 in 2019 to 2,34,473 in 2023. Meanwhile, the UK also has set down a massive growth of 273.9%, with Indian student numbers rising from 36,612 in 2019 to 1,36,921 in 2023. In addition, this growth in the UK and the introduction of the Graduate Route Visa in 2021, has allowed international students to remain in the country for two years (three years for PhD programmes) after completing their studies.
