Eligibility for the PTE Exam in 2025

Unlike other English Language Proficiency tests like IELTS, the PTE exam has no specific eligibility criterion. PTE is a language test for university-level English, so there are no specific educational prerequisites for registration.

However, below are a few factors/eligibility criteria that you need to pass in order to book the PTE exam in 2025.

  1. Age Limit for PTE: While there is no upper age limit in the PTE exam, the candidate needs to be at least 16 years old to be able to take the PTE exam. Additionally, if you are below 18, you will need to submit a parental consent form during PTE registration. It needs to be signed by either your parents or guardian and is easily available on the official PTE website.
  2. PTE Exam Educational Qualifications: As per the Pearson website, there are no specific educational requirements for the PTE exam. However, you do need at least secondary education to appear for PTE.
  3. Identification Proof: While registering for the PTE exam, you will be asked for identification proof. You primarily need a valid passport as proof of identity and a valid email address.

Additionally, you may need to submit some other identification documents, which we have mentioned below. So, make sure that you keep them handy while registering for the PTE exam.

Documents Required for PTE Registration

During your PTE exam registration process, you will only need a valid, non-expired passport. However, in some cases, you will be required to provide some additional documents, which you can find below:

  1. Government-issued ID: In some cases, you can also provide a government-issued ID like an Aadhaar Card. However, only a few test centres accept it, so it's better to check the official Pearson's guidelines.
  2. Visa or Residence Permit: If you are taking the exam in a different country, you will be required to submit either a visa or residence permit.
  3. Housings for Disabilities: Lastly, if you need special accommodation due to disabilities, you will need to bring a backup medical document along with Pearson's approval letter.

Below are some things you should keep in your mind on your day of the PTE Exam.

  • You need to bring the ID to the exam centre and submit it there.
  • You won't be allowed in the test centre if you fail to bring your ID.
  • Make sure to bring the original ID, as PTE does not accept photocopies.

Above, we discussed documents, eligibility, and some additional information regarding the PTE exam. But now, let's understand how to book PTE exam on the official PTE website.
